Week 20

After gaining what I feel is a good understanding of the topics in the articles, I wanted to spend some time studying similar magazines, to get a feel of what the project required and the type of target audience I need my project to associate with.

I spent some time in the University library looking at past and present editions of popular architecture magazines, analysing the Typography, grid structures, colours, paper stocks, and other interesting features.

I can hopefully use this to influence my layouts.

 

 

Week 18 +19

I wanted to really get to terms with the subjects in the articles, to give me the best chance of coming up with relevant content and a design I could be pleased with.

I spent a lot of time looking into the Brutalist theme, exploring the history, and looking at photos of brutalist structures, as well as artwork that is influenced by the style. I wanted to feel like I fully understood what the article was referring to before I started to produce design solutions.

The same goes for Victorian and Georgian architecture. Although there isn't as much emphasis on these topics, I felt it was important to get a good knowledge of the themes.

Week 17

 After thinking about the content of the articles, I started to brainstorm some information and thoughts I already have on the themes. We were also asked to go out and take photos of examples of architecture in the area. I've included some of the best photos I took in Wolverhampton, and also some photos I took further from home that reminded me of the assignment.

 

 

 
 

Week 16

 I read through the brief carefully, and after discussing the subjects as a group, I started to think about how I could approach the task.
I feel it's important to jot down what I will need to consider when developing my contrasting double page spreads, and also to familiarise myself and get interested in the subjects in the articles.

Week 15

As well as discussing the new assignment with the class, we continued last weeks exercise, this time producing 2 A3 layouts using a grid structure and measurements that were given to us.

Week 14

This week we were introduced to our new module. We were given an introductory assignment, encouraging us to experiment with designing layouts across pages.
I produced 3 sets of A4 layouts, attempting to show cohesion between each design.

Week 12

I spent the final week of the project putting the final touches on my finished InDesign files, to get them ready for print. We were given instructions on how to display our work on mount board, which made my spreads look really well presented. I'm really pleased with the outcome of my work, and look forward to receiving constructive feedback.
