Week 6

In preparation for taking my hand drawn designs onto the computer, I created full size visuals and received feedback on what I could change to improve the layout.

Week 5

I further developed my thumbnail sketches into a layout I feel I can interpret on Adobe Indesign software to create a final piece, and started to think about possible Typefaces I could use for my title.

Week 4

This week, I've continued with my thumbnail sketches, developing my ideas into more detailed double page spread layouts. I decided on the title "Beyond the High Street", and considered ways to display the information I want my finished piece to include.

Week 3

I've decided to base my project around independent retailers in the city of Wolverhampton. It's a subject close to heart as my family run a clothing shop in the area, and something I feel is relevant and of interest to other students. The angle I'd like the article to take is to encourage people to explore the city's many independent stores, as opposed to just shopping in your typical Topshop/New Look/J.D Sports type high street chains.
I've taken a number of photos of some of the best independents in the area, and jotted down some initial ideas for content/layout in thumbnail form.

Week 2

After brainstorming some of the knowledge I already have of the area, I looked at some local media sources, and also had the chance to get out and about with my camera to look for inspiration.

Typographic Fundamentals

After an introductory lecture and group discussion, I have recieved the brief for the first Typographic Fundamentals module, titled:

Where we are- Discovering Wolverhampton and the Black Country

History, People, Places

I have been instructed to keep a weekly Blog archiving my progress on the course; where I will document images and details of research, design processes, and inspirations that contribute towards projects.

For this project, the brief is to create a "zine" for "freshers" and first-time visitors to Wolverhampton. I'm required to hand in a double-page spread consisting of at least 250 words (that I have written,) on my chosen subject matter. It must be black and white to allow for photocopy production, and should fit into two A4 pages.

This week, I will start collecting research, and hopefully come up with an idea of what topic of local interest I'd like to base my "zine" on.
